AI Writing Tools in 2025: From Draft to Publish, A Creator's Workflow

How we use AI writing tools to take an article from zero to published—without losing voice or sounding robotic.

The Honest Workflow

Stage 1: Ideation (Human + AI)

**Process:** We start with a human-curated brief. Topic, angle, target reader, key points to cover. Then we use Claude to generate 10 headline variants.

Example:

Human brief: "Article about FLUX Schnell vs Midjourney for indie game developers on a budget"

Claude output: 10 headlines ranked by search potential and shareability

Human picks/iterates on headlines. AI doesn't decide the direction—that's human.

---

Stage 2: Outline (Human Sets Structure, AI Fills)

**Process:** We write a detailed outline in plain text. Then we give Claude the outline and ask it to expand each section.

**Critical rule:** The outline we write is specific. "Explain the pricing model" not "discuss pricing." Specific outlines produce specific output.

---

Stage 3: First Draft (AI, Heavily Edited)

**Process:** AI generates the full draft. We then go through line by line, cutting filler, adding specific examples, injecting original thinking.

What we cut:

  • Generic transitions ("In today's rapidly evolving landscape...")
  • Overuse of qualifiers ("very", "really", "extremely")
  • Any sentence that could appear in any article on the topic
  • What we add:

  • Actual test results with real numbers
  • Personal/anecdotal evidence
  • Specific tool names, version numbers, prices
  • ---

    Stage 4: SEO Optimization (AI-Assisted)

Tools like Surfer SEO or Semflow analyze top-ranking articles for your keyword and suggest improvements. We use these as a checklist, not a prescription.

    What we actually optimize:

  • Does this article match search intent?
  • Are headers scannable?
  • Does the introduction answer the question immediately?
  • ---

    Stage 5: Final Human Edit

Before publish: one full human read-through. No AI involved at this stage.

    ---

    Tools We Use

    | Stage | Tool | Why |

    |-------|------|-----|

    | Ideation | Claude | Better headlines than ChatGPT |

    | Outline | Claude | Structured thinking |

    | Draft | Claude | Quality and speed |

    | SEO | Surfer SEO | Data-driven suggestions |

    | Editing | ProWritingAid | Grammar, clarity scores |

    ---

    The Bottom Line

AI writing tools amplify whatever you bring to the table. A strong writer with AI produces more. A weak writer with AI produces faster—but the output quality is still weak.

Invest in improving your own writing judgment. AI handles execution; humans set direction.
